April 2014 Subscription Box Reviews

I am super late on my April Subscription Box reviews, but this was really the earliest I could get them up. I am currently subscribed to 3 subscription box services: Birchbox, Ipsy, and Wantable Intimates. I have been subscribed to Birchbox since December 2013, Ipsy since January 2014, and Wantable’s Intimates Box since February 2014.

This month was a great month for me! It seems like all my subscriptions really brought their ‘A’ game.

Birchbox, $10/month: April2014Birchbox

Birchbox gets a 5/5 from me this month. I’m really pleased with everything they sent me, I’m really hoping that next month is just as great.

Inside box from left to right: Fekkai Technician Color Care Shampoo: Gave this a try and it had pretty much the same effect as what I currently use (Biolage).  A full-size bottle of this is cheaper than what I normally buy! I’m going to finish out my sample and current shampoo before considering a switch.

KIND Healthy Grain Bar in Maple Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt: Honestly, most health bars tend to taste like cardboard but this was actually really good! I loved the little kick the sea salt gave it, and it is relatively healthy. Another selling point for me is that is non GMO and Gluten Free. I’m going to add them to my grocery list and see if I can locate them here before buying them online.

Outside box from left to right: Shea Terra Organics Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Facial Cleanser: When coming out of the bottle this product is kind of goopy and thick. The smell is also not particularly pleasant. However, it did leave my skin smoother and softer after I followed the instructions and left it on for the recommended amount of time (actually I went over, and left it on for 20 mins). When I had tried it previously, I had left it on for a maybe a minute tops and it didn’t have the same effect. I probably won’t be purchasing because it’s kind of time consuming and I preferred other products I received.

Color Club Nailpolish in Gold Struck: I’m really picky about my nailpolish (kind of a snob, I’ll admit). So I haven’t tried this out. But the color seems nice.

The Balm Cosmetics How ‘Bout Them Apples? in Pie: This little sample is creamy lip/cheek palette. It was the first thing I tried! It’s definitely really nice and creamy and gives just the right amount of color – I’m guessing I’ll end up using this a lot during the summer.

Ipsy, $10/month:

Ipsy gets a 5/5 as well! I was delighted with the samples I was sent this month – they were all things I either would have purchased to try or stuff that I wouldn’t have considered but loved!

Far left: Sexy Hair Root Pump Volumizing Spray Mousse:  I’ve previously eyed this product in stores, and so I was looking forward to trying out this sample! However when I tried this out I didn’t really see much of a difference, honestly. I’m thinking I may have used it a little too sparingly, based on what others have said so I’m going to give another try.

Center top: Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion: I really really loved this product. I’ve used it several times now and it’s exactly what I want from a microdermabrasion product – my skin definitely felt much softer once I used it. Also it smells wonderfully! I’m actually considering buying it once my sample runs out even though it is outrageously expensive.

Center bottom: City Color White Gold Shadow & Highlight Mousse: Holy cow is this pigmented! A very bright sparkly gold – I hardly had to use any for my entire lid. The color isn’t the best for my skin tone, so I’ll be using it mostly as a accent and very sparingly. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

Cailyn Tinted Lipbalm in Apple Pink: I loved that this lipbalm comes with its own brush! The color of it is a very orange-y pink, but it ended up looking pretty good. I will say that it is not particularly hydrating, however. I probably won’t be purchasing one of these.

Far right: Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil Travel Size: I was really excited to receive this since I love Urban Decay products, needless to say it did not disappoint! It’s glides on smoothly, is very creamy and pigmented. It’s definitely going to be my new go-to eyeliner.

Wantable Intimates, $36/month:

Wantable gets a 4/4 for me this month! Each box they’ve sent me so far has been really fantastic and I keep looking forward to it. This month Wantable Intimates seemed to have an unofficial theme. “April showers bring May flowers” is one of those common sayings that immediately ran through my mind when I opened my box this month.

Left: St. Eve Knot Front All Over Lace Chemise in Aqua, size small ($36.00): I am obsessed with lace, absolutely obsessed – I love lace dresses, skirts, anything. So I definitely squealed with joy when I pulled this out of my box. It fits my style, is absolutely gorgeous, and is my favorite color.

Center: Sock It to Me Umbrella Socks ($12.00): Considering that socks are on my “love” list, I’m actually a little surprised I haven’t been sent a pair prior to this! However, these ones are super cute and utterly adorable. Since I live in rainy Washington state, they’ll be a great conversation piece (although no one uses umbrellas here!).

Right top: Nina Sensoy Tank Top French Blue, size Medium ($22.95): This tank top isn’t bad – but it’s definitely my least favorite item this month. The fabric is just alright, and I’m not that fond of the square neckline. However, I do love the color and I’ll likely end up wearing it pretty regularly.

Right bottom: Icy Hot Sweet Dots Hipster Ceramic/Knockout Pink, size Medium ($8.99): You may recognize this pair of panties from my February Wantables box. However, considering they’re in a different color – I’m not really bothered by it. They’re still cute, fit my style, and the blue theme the box has this month.
